Jamie Wasilchenko of Newaygo, Michigan has been selected by the scholarship committee as the winner of the SLIG First Time Attendee for 2021. She will be attending the Russian course.
Jamie Wasilchenko has been doing genealogy since she was in elementary school when a teacher unintentionally gave Jamie her first research question: “Where is your last name from?” Jamie works as a museum professional and history writer, and she is in the process of starting her own genealogy business. She is a member of the Western Michigan Genealogical Society and a volunteer with the Newaygo County Museum & Heritage Center. When she is not researching, she is an avid traveler and enjoys spending time outside exploring the Great Lakes. She will be attending the course “Mother Russia: Research in the Countries of the Former Russian Empire and USSR,” where she hopes to gain new skills to research the Ukrainian ancestors who gave her that question-provoking surname.
Congratulations Jamie!
