Jeanne Larzalere Bloom will be coordinating a new course at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG) in 2017. Entitled "You be the Judge: A Practicum Using Standards to Evaluate Genealogical Work,"this course is a supervised practical application of Genealogy Standards where students will be the judges. Jeanne is well qualified to coordinate a course on this topic as she is currently serving as the President of the Board for Certification of Genealogists.
Students will evaluate genealogical work samples of unknown quality to determine whether the samples meet, partially meet, or do not meet standards. From these exercises students will gain insight into the mindset and the habits involved in consistently producing work that meets standards. Students will develop evaluation strategies to identify weaknesses in their writing or in the writing of others.
Jeanne will speaking at the National Genealogical Society's conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she will be presenting the following lectures:
- "BCG Certification Seminar, Parts 1 and 2"
- "The Records of the National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, 1866-1938"
- "Sharing With Others: How to Convey Evidence (LS)
- "Bringing Life to Our Ancestors: Manuscript Collections"
Hopefully you will get the chance to hear Jeanne at NGS and then join us in January 2017 to attend her new course. It promises to elevate your genealogical education!
